To all Carrom federations Dear friends, The former national champion and eminent coach of India Mr. Arun Deshpande has sent me the following suggestions for the changes in the International Rules of the Carrom and has asked my opinion about it. Since it is a matter concerning to all Carrom players of the
world, I would like to place his suggestions before your
consideration, without making my own comments about them. Since I
dont want to influence the discussion. I may also mention that any new suggestion for the improvement coming from any corner should be welcomed, while any unnecessary suggestion, which does not help the game of Carrom can be frankly disapproved. Since you all are experienced Carrom players I am sure your opinion and suggestions will have great value. Please take it only as a discussion among friends and
colleagues. Changes in Carrom Rules as suggested by Mr. Arun Deshpande are as following: 1) Queen's points will be 5 instead of 3. 2) Queen's points will be counted at all stages. 3) There will be board limit of 6 boards instead of 8 boards up to finals. 4) The points for the game will remain as same 25 points. The above will make the game faster. 5) Remove the rule of crossing the legs beyond imaginary lines as one umpire cannot judge on both sides of the plyer due to optical illusion. 6) A player can take support of the chair but not of the stand or carrom board. If the players takes support of the stand or carrom board then position of the carrom board may be disturbed. 7) Remove the rule of holding a solid material in hand as I have never seen a player holding any solid thing in the hand except a striker in my 51 years experience. 8) A player must touch his/her nail of the striking finger to the striker while breaking which will not allow the players to push the striker.
